This chapter talked about evaluating arguments and some writing can be dishonest or misguided which are known as logical fallacies. Some writers generalize and stereotype which sometimes this are misleading to the argument. Make sure that that the writer is telling the true about the argument. Also witters draw up analogies which are good for the writing because this points out the similarity between two things which are other wise different. Making assumptions is a claim that is taken to be true which doesn't need proof which some writers do since they rarely have time to prove all the facts. AT the end of an argument we need to draw the conclusion which is putting things together, this means establishing that a general principle is true.
All of this information I learn from this chapter I will take into consideration because it is very helpful to have and to known when writing a argument. I believe that we must have all the facts before we start making false assumptions about any thing or any one. We must always have a conclusion at the end stating what was the result of your argument. This was a very helpful chapter to read.

“Happy Endings,” “Obituary,” and “Oompah Loompah” Dialogue
What’s your response to Mr. Harvey?
My response to Mr. Harvey is that he sounds like he is a good teacher wanting to have his children learn proper English. He seems like he wants to help them and get the children prepare for the future and also for the children to have class. He wants them to learn and succeed in life since the parents weren't able to and he wants them to know that there is more out there better for them not just a bad life. He seems like he cares about them even though he stated in the store he doesn't, i agree with what Lovey said that Mr. Harvey wants them to be Americans.
I don't believe Mr. Harvey has the right to yell at the students since they are only students, yes i know we all get frustrated once in awhile but to yell at them is on call for. He is doing his job as a teacher and even thought the children might hate him they are going to benefit it all at the end and the children learn.

Extra Credit-Writing About Fiction
The online reading from the writing lab talked about how to write an essay on a fiction story. It first starts with how to closely read a text. You have to read very carefully the text that you are reading make sure you pay close attention. After you have read the reading closely you can start making your notes which are very important to do. You need to either highlight whats important or make notes in the margins or even do both, but do not let the highlighter take over you and highlight the whole reading. There are somethings that you must avoid doing and they are don't recall what happens in detail it's not the intended goal, an also the paper shouldn't state the answer but it should explore an idea or explain your own ideas. After you have read the story you must look over your notes so you can come up with some questions and answer them. To write your thesis all you have to do is put the answer from the question in to a sentence. When you have done this you are ready to put your evidence together. Once you have all the information it's time to draft your essay and you should use this steps: free write take like 5 to 10 minutes and just write about the story with out looking at the story. Then review and if necessary do some researcher then evaluate the information you have written down. Other things are to include quotes or paraphrasing from the book. Also you need to summarize which is taking a large portion of your work and shorten it in a few sentences.
After reading this techniques I will be using them in the future in my own personal work. I need to gather all my information before I actually start writing my essay. It is very helpful to read all the information from this online lab and now I can go back and look at it if I need help. I really enjoy learning new things and learning about how to get information about a fiction reading.

Extra Credit-Purdue's Online Writing Lab-Writing about Literature!
In the Purdue's Online Writing Lab in the section about Writing about Literature it talks about how to make a thesis especially if you are writing an argument paper and also how to setup an essay. You must have evidence for your thesis if not go searching for it to have a good argument. It also talks about what topics are good ones to pick from. For example, a discussion of a workers character, a reading of an outside philosophical perspective, but the best topics are the ones that come from your own readings of literature. If you need help the best things is to start some research and you can start by going to the library or go on the Internet. For this kind of essay your thoughts should make up your most of your essay this is by what you found from the information you looked for. Formatting the essay is a very important step to do and most papers should use the MLA format an the Cited list should be the last page of your essay. Things that you should remember don't leave quotes or paraphrases by them self you must introduce it, explain it and show how it relates to your thesis. However, for more help you can go online or research at the library about the MLA format.
I plan to use the information that I just learned by trying to use it on my on essays and try to find more information if I need to. I always have a hard time starting a thesis and maybe I should start my paragraphs first then go back to the thesis last and get it from the body of the essay. I do know that formatting is very important for the essay and i need to start using the MLA format unless I've been told different from the instructor. I also need to put more supportive information in to my essays to support my thesis if I write the thesis first. I did learn a lot from this information from the Purdue's Online Writing Lab.

Essay 2-Rough Draft
Family is very important in ones life and it can also tell a lot about a person’s identity. In some stories that I have read like “Coming Home Again” it showed a lot about family and how each family member was in the family. Also this story talks about a family that was going to a hard time and even though we all go through hard times it will just make us stronger. Ones family is who we are and it tells you a lot about ones character.
In this story the young boy Chang-rae had to come back from boarding school to help out his family during a hard time. His mother was dying and everyone helped around the home the father, sister and him. From this story I learned a lot about this particular character just by the relationship him and his mother had. He and his mother shared one important thing which was cooking. We all have something that we share with a family member and we will always remember it. His mother thought him all about cooking even though she didn’t want him in the kitchen because it wasn’t a man’s job. He was very intrigued in cooking and he wanted to learn and he did. This teaches me that never give up on your dreams even though your family doesn’t agree. I have learned that family will always be on your side even though they don’t agree, but as long as your happy and they see that in you.
His mother was very sick and the father and sister worked and he was responsible to stay home and help his mother when needed and make food for them. He learned to cook and make all the foods that his mother used to make for them that is very special and it would make his mother very happy. We all want to make our parents very happy in one way or another and a lot of us try our best so they can be proud of us. I know I have tried to make my parents proud of me and spend as much time with them as I can. I believe that family is what teaches you how to be strong and teaches you how to be. For example, there are families that can teach you to be rude to people and not care about being clean and be abusive or use drugs. You might see that in your parents and that is what makes you and follow in there foot steps, but on the other hand sometimes it can make you stronger and not want to be like them.
I have never experience anyone dying close to me like Chang-rae did in the story losing his mother is very sad. He will always have his mother’s good heart and all his memories and he will always have a little something from her. We all have a good thing that we have been giving by our families and we should cherish it and never let go of it.
Families are who we are like it or not they are our identity and they are which give us our character. We will have some sort of characteristic that we get from our parents and our children will get it from us also. We are who we are because of our families and they give us strength and they also give us our weakness.
